Every so often I will get a gifted article of clothing from a brand. It’s not something that happens regularly, but occasionally I will find something that fits my lifestyle and needs. As of late, I have started to approach gifted items the way that I approach shopping, and I use #thefourshoppingrules before picking anything new. Especially now that I have my capsule in place, it has to be something good, that can easily incorporate with the rest of my current wardrobe. I’ve adopted an extra picky attitude for the time being. As if I wasn’t picky enough already.
All of this is just my long way of saying: I added a new item to my summer capsule!

This croppy linen tank top is from Everlane and it runs true to size. I was really pleasantly surprised with the fit. Linen tank tops (especially fitted ones) can be difficult because I always have to worry about the bust fitting well, without the arm holes being too big (I’m a 34DD). Turns out this one is pretty perfect for me. It has darts at the bust and comes in ever so slightly at the waist for a nice tailored-type fit. The buttons are a cute detail, and it’s obviously made of my favorite — linen.
At first, I tried styling it with jeans and a belt, (always thinking about that polish-factor) but it felt a little dated. Like something I would’ve worn in my college days. So I got rid of the belt and threw on some favorite sneakers. And now it’s like something I would’ve worn in my high school days. Oh well.

Today, I wanted to point you in the direction of a lecture that I took a couple years ago from Rachel Cargle called Unpacking White Feminism. I vividly remember the day I watched it. Sitting down at my dining table with pen and paper in hand, anxious to learn… and honestly? Ready to be offended. I’m no stranger to white fragility and I expected it to come on full force, because Rachel is not one to beat around the bush. But I had a different experience than I expected. She was warm and very enjoyable to listen to. Of course, I was already familiar with her message, but the lecture was really well done. And if you don’t already follow her, you should. She’s been one of the best no-nonsense, challenging teachers for me.
