This weekend has been… another weekend! Same old, same old, stuck at home. Made even more discouraging by the fact that we can’t really be outside due to smoky skies. So there’s been way too much screen time, and way too many snacks because I just don’t have the mojo to be the constant entertainer. I know a lot of people are in the same boat, and a lot of people are in a rockier boat — losing or leaving the security of their homes all together to evacuate emergency situations. I keep thinking, this shit has to go up from here! and then something else happens to leave us hanging. I know we need the rough patches to appreciate the good, but damn! I GET IT. Ready for some good news.
outfit details
I’ve been dropping in and out of the #monthlystylechallenge with Jess Ann Kirby, and today’s theme was “not just a tee”… but I am, in fact, wearing just a tee. I have a lot of thoughts on tees, actually. They are one of my biggest wardrobe struggles and the item that gets replaced most often. They always seem like the perfect blend of casual-cool on everyone else, but I have seriously been on the hunt for the PERFECT TEE my entire life. And I’m fairly convinced that it doesn’t exist for me. I have favorite tees, of course — 2 to be exact — but I never feel my best when wearing them. I think going forward, they can be reserved for lounge wear days and not necessarily included as part of my official capsule. I’d rather save that spot for something I feel more excited to style.
anti-racism notes
This past week, we reached the 19 year anniversary of 9/11. It feels unbelievable. I saw a lot of people sharing their heartbreaking experiences of that day and yearning for a time after 9/11 when Americans were seemingly united. And as a white person, I felt that too. What I’m going to say now does not take away from the reverence or respect I have for that day and the lives lost or the deep sorrow and honor I felt visiting the memorial. But this year, I did look at it from a slightly different perspective — that of a Muslim-American.`There are lots of great articles and even school lessons on the topic, just hit up Google with “Muslims in Post-9/11 America”.
