I don’t think most people will need a loungewear capsule for this time of our lives. But if you have the energy to put one together, I personally found that it gave me a sense of normalcy in a world gone mad. My days are more structured when I get ready in the morning, but quite honestly, the idea of picking out a cute outfit became overwhelming and wildly unnecessary. So putting together a capsule can act as a good practice in wearing what we already have.
Stay at Home Orders
This past week started with sheer panic, ended in utter exhaustion, and renewed itself — all in 7 days! I feel like I had the Sunday Scaries every freakin’ day. Along with many of you, I feel a bit all over the place with the new orders to stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I’m happy to do it and flatten the curve and all that jazz, but man. It’s tough. If you’ve been here awhile, you already know that Stevie isn’t one for flexibility. So adjusting our entire lives is hard on him, which he passes on to his parents. I can’t blame him, but I found myself absorbing his energy and feeling completely wiped out within a few days. My introvert heart is not cut out for this!
Building a loungewear capsule
By Friday, our 5th day at home, I avoided my child as much as possible. I basically hid in my closet and organized things there, while figuring out this loungewear capsule. I went through my drawers, my closet, and a few items that had been boxed up. I pulled everything out that could qualify as loungewear and laid it on my bed.
The only rules I gave myself were that the items I chose had to be in good condition and fit me properly. No low standards over here! Once I tried on everything, I was able to get rid of about half. Haha! Gaining weight made that easy.
I wanted to try and keep most items monochromatic, so that it would reduce my decision fatigue. Anything I grab should go with another and create the simplest of outfits. Then I threw in a couple pops of color because they’re some of my favorite cozy items.
And there you have it!
Over the next few (several?) weeks (months?), I’ll be sharing my outfits on Instagram, so feel free to join me there. But rest assured, that putting in a little effort up front can save you a lot of time and energy as you’re just trying to survive — AKA keep your shit together — each day. I type this as I’m yelling at my kid, so take it all with a grain of salt.
Any questions about building a loungewear capsule?
