Do you even want to hear about styling pleated shorts on a day like this? I don’t know, maybe you’re having a great weekend! It’s such a weird holiday to me. Memorial Day has a lot of nerve to try and kick off summer break while it feels like we’ve already been on summer break for a hundred years. I’ve been feeling all over the place — starting with wicked anxiety this morning. Followed by FOMO, annoyance, acceptance, and finally just really, really tired. I swear the emotional roller coaster of quarantine is matched only by the roller coaster of special needs parenting. My emotions and my time don’t belong to me anymore, so it’s hard to keep everything in perspective. But I am glad we’re home together vs. any alternative scenario. We even got to eat s’mores last night and Paul is gonna whip up some hamberders for dinner. That sounds festive right?! I will answer for you: yes, yes it does.

OK, these pleated shorts. Every time I wear them, I feel like I have to justify why I even own them. I try to make it clear that I don’t care if they show off my tum or that I look like I’m channeling my inner 90’s TV stepdad (or Tom Selleck in Three Men and Baby, HUBBA HUBBA). But I digress. These shorts are a new silhouette for me this year. I remember seeing pleated shorts making a splash last summer and just saying NO WAY IN HELL to myself. But now that I’m going after that slightly more polished summer look, I think they work. The pleats and wide cuff are visually interesting, while the high rise makes them work with a tuck or a crop top. I think they’d be cute with a belt too, so I finally ordered this one on Poshmark. We’ll see!
