As usual, I’m feeling relieved and exhausted at the end of another homeschool week. Stevie had some real positive moments this week and I think he is handling all of this so much better than I am. Also, after sooo many days of yucky smoky skies, we were happy to see most of the sky cleared today. It was still hot as hell, which is a whole other thing, but no depressing cloud hanging over us today. LITERALLY.
On a sadder note, we all just got word a couple hours ago that the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed. I’ve been talking with Paul here at home and trying to process what happens next. Because of how frustrated I have felt the last 3 years and 9 months, I am only expecting the worst. Lack of control is not my strong suit and this feels like one more major thing that is in the hands of someone else. I am trying not to jump to conclusions but I’m hoping the members of Senate have some sense of dignity after what happened in 2016, and they wait until the election to appoint someone new.
outfit details
I know it feels dumb to talk about outfits when there are so much more important things going on, but Paul always reminds me that “terrible shit happens every day and you still talk about clothes” so I guess there’s that. Finding little joys in this type of superficiality is just another reminder how weird life can be.
For today’s #monthlystylechallenge, the prompt was “thrifted” so I’m wearing these secondhand shorts. When I got them, the pleated look was a new silhouette for me, so I wasn’t sure I’d wear them much. But according to my data (🤓) they’re the most worn item in my summer capsule. I love when that happens!
Secondhand shopping and thrifting are definitely skills to learn and take trial and error. I even went through a phase while trying to quit fast fashion where the finding thrifted clothes became my addiction! Bargain hunter’s heart right here. ❤️ I think I’m in a pretty good space with it right now, but that can change in an instant. So I still try and use #thefourshoppingrules whenever I shop, secondhand or otherwise.
anti-racism notes
No notes today, but I would encourage you to take a few minutes and read up on the judge’s life, including some of her missteps. I don’t disparage her mistakes, and have the upmost respect for her, her work, and her herosim. We can’t expect perfection from any single person — but they are good opportunities to learn where we, and any future leaders, can improve.
