When I sit down to write, I am always so very optimistic. A cup of coffee at arms length. A clean desk. A cracked window for a nice breeze. But it’s never long before my coffee, quiet work station, and brain are all completely overrun by a loud little dude named Stevie. Sometimes just the amount of noise he makes at any given moment is enough to make me want to cry. Before I can complete any single post, my work location gets moved several times. Watch me in my room, watch me on the slip ‘n’ slide, watch me drive my cars. He may not realize I’m not actually “watching”, but he wants me present nonetheless. So I drag my shit with me wherever he wants, nod and say mm-hmm a lot, and most importantly, never get too comfortable!
outfit notes
It was hot, hot, hot this weekend. Made me feel very pleased with myself that I decided to switch over to Part 2 of my summer capsule. This oversized shirt is one that I bought over a month ago. I’ve been looking forward to wearing it ever since! And I was not disappointed. The sizing on it is very generous, so while I’ve been teetering between two sizes during quarantine, I was comfortable going down to the smaller size when the larger one was out of stock.
It’s also a shirt that can’t help but point out some of the inequities in fashion. When +size women are told that extended sizes can’t be made for them because of the costs involved in expanding? Well… with all the options for an oversized shirt available to straight-sized women, it’s pretty clear that’s not true.
allyship notes
I have been making a repeated mistake! When sharing resources on the history of slavery, it was pointed out to me (thank you Meena) that I have been using incorrect terminology. This post explains the more respectful terms to use, so I will definitely be more conscious of my language going forward. I debated whether I should go back and correct old posts, but I don’t think I will. Instead I may add a little side note including the information.
