4th of July Weekend

Sneaky, sneaky 4th of July.  Where did you come from?  I mean BAM!  All of a sudden, am I right?

When I woke up on Friday, the last thing I expected was for my husband to suggest we go somewhere.  I obviously am not one to turn down that offer, so we hopped in the car and headed up north. I guess everyone had the same idea because the traffic was crap.  Reminding us why this was the last thing I expected to do.

After a couple hours in the car, we had only traveled about 45 miles.  So at my old stomping grounds of Oxnard, we decided to get off the freeway and find something to eat.  Near the Channel Islands Harbor was actually a bit of a ghost town.  Not much going on.  We had some Topper’s Pizza – definitely an old fave – and then we twiddled our thumbs and decided instead of continuing north, we would just head home to avoid sitting in more traffic.

We are such adventurers.

But hey, that evening we also took a walk, grilled hot dogs and corn, ate watermelon, and watched fireworks from the balcony.  So it still turned out to be a good old fashioned 4th of July.

Somebody thinks I’m hilarious!

The rest of the weekend was spent hanging around, visiting family and friends.  Stevie topped his Sunday off with some cousin time – taking a dip in the smallest pool ever.  They didn’t seem to mind.  Then Paul and I put him to bed early and topped off our weekend by watching an entire movie on pay-per-view!  It’s been awhile since we’ve done that.

Even with nothing major to report, I’m sad the holiday weekend is over and we are practically looking at the halfway point of summer.  It’s unreal, sometimes, the way time goes.  But summer ain’t over yet!

  1. Oh no, sometimes I forget how frustrating the Cali freeway system can be. Still, your afternoon at the harbor looks fabulous, especially from a landlocked perspective. Our fourth was rather ho-hum – we went to an art walk and brewery, and ended up watching fireworks from the light-rail platform. A rather lonely affair.

  2. The BEST thing I love about July is that it’s SO close to August. Which means it’s really September. Because Fall is my everything! 🙂
