We started our foggy morning with breakfast at the hotel and then a quick drive through Queen Anne to get one last glimpse of the city. Totally unnecessary to see that view AGAIN, but it was still nice to briefly explore one more area before we headed out.
At that point, we still had a couple choices left on our CityPass, and Paul got to pick our last tourist activity. He was pretty excited to see the Museum of Flight, so off we went! It was a good choice. (Again, that is according to me, and does not represent the opinions of our son.) Not only did they have a bunch of old planes hanging around, but we got to see some NASA displays and experience the smell of the 60’s first-hand, walking through JFK’s Air Force One. I also learned that a flying car almost came to fruition in the 60’s! I loved that.
Once our curiosities for history were satisfied, we started the drive down to Portland.
It felt long, I’m not going to lie. It takes about 3 hours, but it felt like we were in the car all day. Stevie talked about Papa Ron truck the entire way – which is his grandpa’s big, red truck that any 3 year old boy would love. But when he talks about it, he doesn’t actually tell us anything. Just says “Stevie Papa Ron truck” over and over. And over. And over. And over. Andoverandover. And over x’s 1,000. There’s only so much of this “conversation” two grown up people can handle before they are like “OK NO MORE PAPA RON TRUCK. ALL DONE PAPA RON TRUCK. PLEASE TALK ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN PAPA RON TRUCK.” It makes me laugh to think we almost made this vacation a road trip. Hahaha. Haha. Ha. Idiots.
Luckily we were able to take a break and visit with one of Paul’s cousins along the way. She treated us to lunch at her very own Jimmy John’s, and was so excited that we were able to surprise her. It was the first time Stevie and I had ever met her too, so it was a real treat for everyone. After a nice chat and teaching Stevie how to run the cash register, we reluctantly climbed back in the car and endured more Papa Ron truck talk.
Yeah, it was a suuuper fun drive.
As soon as we arrived in Portland, we met up with some friends who instantly lightened our mood. We had an awesome dinner at McMenamins Kennedy School, which is actually an old elementary school building that has been transformed into a hotel/restaurant. So, so cool. We ate, we took a little walk around the rest of the building, and we had a great catch up sesh. At the end of the night, my cheeks hurt from smiling so hard. And Stevie loved meeting our “gends” AKA friends. Then off to bed we went.
