It was a hot and windy day. This mom was so desperate to do anything other than an indoor playground, that she frantically searched the internet for “Things to do in LA with kids”. I quickly ruled out art fairs, music classes and new parks in ghetto neighborhoods. One of the items that popped up was the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. I’ve been wanting to check it out, but Stevie couldn’t care less about Reagan, presidents or libraries. It would be more of a teamwork activity with my husband to keep Stevie entertained the whole time.
But then something caught my eye. They had a display there called Amazing Automobiles: The Ultimate Car Exhibit.
Well now, we know that’s more like it!
Did I mention I was desperate?
So I picked Stevie up from school and after much protest and convincing (and the promise of french fries), we made the 45 minute trek to Simi Valley, where it was even hotter and windier. Within minutes of arriving, Stevie was crying on the ground because it was too windy. Yup. So I scooped him up and carried him as far and fast as I could to safer territory inside. We got our tickets and made our way straight to the amazing automobile display. I don’t know how amazing it was, but it was pretty cool. I convinced Stevie to take a cheesy tourist picture and then we headed to Air Force One. That actually was kind of amazing. Beautiful display. We walked through the plane and saw the presidential motorcade and Marine One too.
Then Stevie lost a car, had a huge tantrum in the museum store, remembered that he actually wanted to be at a playground, and was bribed with a lollipop to just make it back to my car. Do you notice a theme with food here? We do what we can people!
With only 2 major tantrums, it was still a success. And when we left, he said “more cars”. So there ya go. Must have been pretty amazing.
wow very cool!
