This day was just nuts. Paul and I must have been off our game, because everything seemed to go wrong. We had a great time when it was all said and done, obvi, but wouldn’t blame our friends if they never wanted to hang out with us again!
They were visiting from Utah and had a lot of fun to cram into a few days. The day we met up with them at the San Diego Zoo, they ended up waiting around for us a lot. We got a late start, but figured we’d get there by 11:30 instead of 10:30. No bigs. FOUR HOURS LATER, we arrived. But then we couldn’t find parking. Between the traffic and the crazy drivers and hating to make people wait, Paul was popping Excedrin by this point. After what felt like 10 hours in the car and 30 laps around the parking lot, a spot opened up. Praise the Lord! We paid the $44 admission, found our friends, stayed in the park for like 2 hours. Then it was closing time. Oh hell’s bells.
On the bright side, at least we could all go have a nice dinner together before we had to head back to L.A. So we decided to meet up at Karl Strauss in La Jolla. Except Paul and I accidentally went to the one in Mira Mesa. Clumbsy thumbsy on the GPS selection. Dang it!! We almost decided to call it a day at this point, I mean really. But no! We let them know we got “turned around” and headed to La Jolla. More parking issues, but we figured it out. We were only 30 minutes late for dinner. Oy.
At least it was a great night to be in that cute little town and I looked forward to having a relaxing dinner and some nice conversation. But wait, it must have slipped my mind that we all have kids? And that just doesn’t happen when you have kids. Duh. So between potty runs and an angry, tired Stevie, not to mention the sweet cherry on top of a hair in my sandwich… well, it felt a bit exasperating.
But that’s the wonderful thing about these friends. They are super cool and easy going and understand what its like to have kids and know that sometimes things get crazy. And those are the best kind of friends. So when we look back on this day, I will only remember the craziness because I blogged about it. Otherwise, I’ll look back on the day with a smile, so glad we got to see them and share the crazy times. And a laugh or two.
