I want to start this by saying that my husband strongly discouraged me from going to the fair this year.  He was mostly worried about exposure to too many things right before his  eye surgery.  But I’ve taken him every year since he was little, and while it’s never been the thrill of a lifetime, I just couldn’t get past the thought that it’s tradition!!  We HAD to go.

So we went.  And while he couldn’t stop talking about it on the way there – you guys, it’s “are we there yet?” taken to a whole ‘nother level – once he realized nobody was selling Hot Wheels, he was ready to go.  No rides, no music, no treats — just absolutely no interest in the whole thing.  And lordalmighty: the whining.  Well, he did go on the giant slide and played one of those booth games, so I guess those were the highlight?

I called my husband afterward and admitted that it was an error in judgement, to think it would be a fun day.  He made me apologize to our bank account.

And sadly, I know that even though it never goes the way I want it to, we’ll be back next year for tradition’s sake.  Hey, Ventura County Fair!  Go ahead and take my money!  Love, Jaana
