Toward the end of last summer, I was asked to do a tutorial on how to create beachy waves for short hair. I thought since the season was nearly over, it was kind of pointless at the time. But then Southern California went and did the usual never-ending summer thing (bleh) so, I guess now is as good a time as any.

- Make sure hair is really damp. Not dripping wet, but almost.
- Apply product. Don’t be shy. Use a good amount, even for short hair. This video features Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls because I love how the texture turns out. It leaves my hair wavy, but not crunchy, like so many other sea salt/beach hair sprays.
- Blow dry on low, hot heat, with a diffuser and just scrunch, scrunch, scrunch the hair. Keep scrunching until it’s dry, mostly in the front.
- Use your fingers to comb through and style until it falls the way you want.
- If your hair does not look wavy enough at first, get the area damp again and add a little extra product. Repeat the blow-dry/scrunching. I usually have to repeat these steps just on the front of my hair to get the desired waviness.
- Style with fingers and set with a light hairspray. Total time to style was just under 11 minutes.

Record scratch.
I’m gonna break right here for a sec and give a quick shout-out to my stylist Sommer at Vanity Vault who rocks at pixie cuts, color, and absolutely everything hair. She also makes me laugh-cry at every appointment, she’s so fun and hilarious. I’ve been going to her for 7+ years now and just can’t trust nobody else.
OK back to biznass.

Obviously, everyone’s hair is different, so if this doesn’t work for you, it should at least give your hair a ton of body. When my hair is not in the curling mood, it still gets pretty big and wild. And nothing says summer hair better than big and wild. Set your hair freeee!
Let me know if you try it!
