Since ankle boots don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, I’ve been on the hunt for a pair. Just basic, simple, easy-to-wear-with-anything, all-around ankle boots. I liked these from Steve Madden, but I’m trying to stay on more of a budget here. And one day while I was perusing Target, I came across these – long lost twinsies!
It was instant $35 love. Until I turned them around.
Hmm… Nope.
I put them back on the shelf. I mean, I like country music as much as the next gal, but it wasn’t exactly the vibe I was going for. If only there was a way to remove or cover up the gold accent! After walking around some more, I went back and inspected them a little closer. What could I do to get rid of it? I mean, it was the only thing I didn’t like about them! So I pretended to be a real blogger for a second and tried to put on my creative thinking cap.
And the best I could come up with was nail polish. Yes. I would cover it with nail polish.
As much as I debated turning the gold into a hot pink neon accent, I settled on this gray-black polish because it had a more matte finish. It wouldn’t be too shiny. It might even blend in with the suede upper. It took about 3 coats to cover the gold completely, but it dried quickly and the small brush made it easy to be precise.
I don’t think many people would have ever noticed the gold, and I have no idea how long the polish will last, but I like them so much more now. Just that little bitty change, and I can totally get behind these babies. Who’s taking me out so I have a good reason to wear them?
Why didn’t I think of this? I picked up the same pair of boots at Target last week and then put them back because of that gold piece on the back. What a great idea!
do it! 😉
