Teaching your child independence is so important. Even something small like putting on their own shoes can help them develop important motor skills and take responsibility for bigger tasks in life.
This particular task of putting on their own shoes can be broken down into 100 simple steps.
Steps 1-99: Ask your child repeatedly to pick up their shoes and bring them to you.
They’re right over there. Right by that chair… Yeah. You see them? Right there. You’re getting warmer. Do you seriously not see them? Ok get up off the floor. No tantrum. It’s nothing to be upset about. Ok really tho. Calm down. They are right next to you! Right there!! Look down! On the floor!! Ok now pick. them. up. Easy. Bend over and pick them up. Don’t scream at me. Just do it. Good job!! Now bring them here. No don’t throw them. Just bring them nicely. Getting closer. You’re literally 10 feet away. Let’s try to get through this. Great!! Great job!!!
Now let’s get the other shoe.
Step 100: Put the child’s shoes on for them. Because now you’re late.
You’re welcome.
you’re so funny! thanks for making me laugh!
Thank YOU for reading! You always leave the sweetest comments xoxo
I think it can be a miraculous thing to get them to get them and have them on before you are late! Every. single. time. you have to get shoes on, too.
Hahahahaa….. too funny. And I am sure a bit frustrating. I think that’s why you kids never learned to tie your shoes until you were teenagers! Lol! Love you!
