Um, is summer flying by for anyone else? Because I’m having a hard time believing that we’re headed into the second week of July. (!!)
It’s been a busy summer for sure. Lots of visitors and activities. But I can’t help but long for the more carefree, easy flowing summer days. I’m here on a Sunday night, grateful for the awesome, long weekend we just had, but preparing for that same old weekly routine to start. And I’m truly exhausted. You see, kids, summer for grown-ups… It’s not that we never have any fun. It’s just different. We still have jobs and responsibilities and schedules. We don’t get out of those things when summer rolls around. And we have to work really hard to squeeze in the fun where we can. Spontaneity is but a twinkle in our eyes. And sometimes we’re just too dang tired for any of it.
Boy, does it leave me longing for the summers of 16. Remember summers at 16? Going to camp, visiting cousins, flirting with boys, learning to drive, being tan and blonde and having, like no cellulite?** Let me just tell you. Ahhhhh.
But here we are, halfway through summer of 34. A few upcoming adventures on the way. And some really fun ones behind us. But what I’d really like to do right now is boycott Monday all together. Pack our things and head to the beach. Sit under an umbrella and take a long summer nap. Feel the sand in my toes and leave this heat and humidity for the city folk.
Maybe you can wake me up when Fall gets here…
**Anyone else convinced that the bathing suits are just broken this year?
ugh… agreed!
