Stop number two on our local thrifting expedition! This one is called American Way and it’s about 2 blocks from the PlayClothes Vintage, which was the first location on our tour.
LOCATION:
3226 W Magnolia Blvd, Burbank, CA 91505
HOURS // Everyday: 9am-6pm
When I think of secondhand shopping, this is definitely the type of store that first comes to mind — because this is the kind that we frequented when I was growing up. Huge store, packed to the brim with junk (and some treasures), priced to sell, with a smell that could knock you over when you first walk in.
If you are a thrifting novice, I do not recommend starting somewhere like this. It could turn you off to all things secondhand. You should go in with an open mind and lots of time to sort through everything. (Maybe some hand sanitizer too.)
That being said, if you can get past the kind of gross vibe, you’ll be sure to walk away with some goodies.
WHAT ELSE IS NEARBY:
BLVD CAFECITO is a coffee shop just a few doors down. I had my typical almond milk latte, but what I really love is that they allow dogs! And looks like they’ll be opening up BLVD TACOS right next door.
WHAT YOU WILL FIND HERE:
Everything… men’s clothing / women’s clothing / children’s clothing / toys / games / furniture / knick-knacks / electronics / accessories / costumes / collectibles
PRICES:
This is probably the most reasonably priced thrift shop in this area, with clothing prices ranging from $2-$20. The most expensive item I’ve seen was a nice coat for $60. But if you time it right, you’ll surely get discounts even on the expensive stuff. You can find coupons here, and each day they have 30% off certain colored tags. Some weekends they’ll do 50% off the whole store, and every time you spend a certain amount, they’ll give you a coupon for your next visit. Easy to feel like you’re getting a good deal.
CHECK IT OUT IF:
You are into the hunt. This is my go-to spot for men’s Levi’s and surprisingly, I often find random brands made in the USA, along with some name brand goods for really cheap. Someone even dropped off Current + Elliott samples here that were going for $3.
One tip for ya: they don’t have dressing rooms and everyone tries stuff on in a corner where there are a few janky full-length mirrors. I typically wear leggings and a longer t-shirt so I can slip items off and on without too much bulk and/or exposure.
Don’t forget to pop over to The Capsule Closet for Lo’s peek into the secondhand stores in the heart of LA. So far, she’s visited Reformation Vintage, Jet Rag, and Crossroads Melrose…
