My first stop in this secondhand shopping series was the much raved about Playclothes, just a few blocks from my house.

Oh.
My.
God.
I can’t believe I’ve lived in Burbank for 12 years and it’s taken me this long to set foot inside this store. I’ve always heard it was great, but to be honest, the 50’s style clothing that they put on the mannequins out front deterred me. It looked more like a costume shop than an actual clothing store.
I was wrong. I mean, yes. It would be great for a period costume. And they organize things by decade. But it’s so much more than that! It’s lively and full of character and decorated so cute and I was simply floored by the whole experience.
It is a packed store, so get ready to dig in. I was only in there for about 45 minutes and I could have stayed much, much longer. Barely made a dent in the browsing possibilities. And the more I think about it, the more I NEED to go back and find a 70’s caftan. RIGHT??
WHAT ELSE IS NEARBY:
Monte Carlo Italian Deli + Pinocchio’s is a kitschy little eatery right across the street with delicious meatballs and garlic toast, served cafeteria style. You can order pizza from there or buy ingredients from the deli to make your own. Yummy gelato too!
WHAT YOU WILL FIND HERE:
Really amazing vintage fashions from the 50’s through the 80’s. Tons of jewelry and accessories, along with amazing jackets, dresses, and even bathing suits. I absolutely loved the dressing room (in a crazy grandmother shabby chic sort of way) and just wanted to hang out in there. Also, if this red 80’s jumpsuit from Sears had pockets, it would’ve been mine.
PRICES:
Prices seemed to fall roughly between $40-$80. I almost bought a dress that was $70, and was surprised to see a rust colored long suede coat for only a few dollars more than that.
CHECK IT OUT IF:
You are into unique styles and want to have fun with your clothes. I think pairing the pieces with modern items would be a fantastic styling challenge. These garments will truly be one of a kind and are in excellent condition. There was a woman steaming and doing repairs on some of the garments as I was shopping. Make sure you have time to peruse through and try things on!
