It hit me a few days ago that it’s October. I know. A little late? But October is pretty significant in a couple ways, including another heartiversary. When he was 10 months old, back in 2011, that’s when Stevie had his 2nd open heart surgery to patch the hole in his heart and place a new pulmonary valve in there. The full repair, as they say. It’s still a temporary repair, nonetheless, because he will need more surgeries in the future. But it is holding him over for a few more years.
He had a cardiology appointment in August that he rocked, confirming all is well. And he graduated to once a year appointments! Of course that made me nervous, but the doc is confident that we will know if he’s going into heart failure early for some reason. She told me to look for the obvious signs – fainting, barfing, extra sleepy all the time, blue skin, etc. So we’ll just go ahead and trust that she knows what she’s talking about! So far, she’s been pretty spot on. And we’ll just pray that I don’t have to deal with fainting, barfing, and blue skin anytime soon!
I gotta say I’m pret-ty pret-ty glad those days are behind us for now. Although I sometimes wonder if the surgeries were the easy part of the deal. No, of course they weren’t easy! They were scary as shit and for every day we spent in the hospital, we are sure we aged about 10 years. But being a parent is no frickin’ joke either. Just in general. Regardless of what you have on your plate, my hats off to everyone who got through today with me!

WOW! This little guy is AMAZING. Sometimes you have to sit and reflect all the things this little guy has gone through in his not even 3-year old little life!
