Man oh man, did we have a nice break for the holidays! It felt long. And it felt relaxing. And it was kind of cold, which was so refreshing. We all slept cozy in our bed until 8am the last 3 days and that was everything. I didn’t cross many activities off my to-do list, but when it’s all said and done, I’m ok with that.
Yesterday we begrudgingly took down our Christmas decorations. Rearranged the living room a little bit and somehow that sparked more clean-up and organizing and purging. So for the first time in years, I feel like our tiny house looks somewhat put together. Eases so much of my anxiety. We still have plenty to do, but the fact that I can see my desk right now is thrilling. Thrilling I tell you.
This was also the first break where I haven’t been counting down the days, hours, minutes until Stevie went back to school and got back on his schedule. That is saying a lot! He has been ever-so-slightly more flexible. He’s learning to be entertained by things around the house (as long as I watch him every step of the way.) You know, I don’t think we went to the park once while we had time off? Tiny tender mercies.
Today it’s back to the old grind. I know when I pick Stevie up from school, he will demand a trip to the park. I’m trying to wrap my brain around the schedule again: school, gym, work, park, lunch, nap, play, play, play, dinner, bath, bedtime. I guess it’s good to be on a schedule, but I’m going to miss hanging out in my PJs by the fire, Christmas lights aglow, brunching with friends, watching too much TV and eating too much food in general. I actually started to remember why I used to love the holidays so much.
So until next year! I’ll be hanging on tight to these memories to get me through.
P.S. Stevie FINALLY learned to say “more” correctly. Only took 6 months of constant correction, but he did it!
Glad it was a good break, we had a good one too. Hopefully that attitude can follow just a little bit into the daily grind. 🙂
