As you may have heard, sunny Southern Cal has been in the middle of a horrible drought. We were finally lucky enough to have water falling from the sky all weekend and the rejoicing commenced. I’ve always loved the rain; it gives the sense of a fresh start. Washes away some of the yuck. And leaves the perfect dewy scent in the air. Plus I get to wear my Hunters and those things were too darn expensive to spend as much time in the closet as they do.
This was the first time Stevie has truly experienced rain – that’s how little we’ve had over the last year. I’m not sure he loved it like I do, but it was fun to see him enjoy it a little bit. Even if he did repeatedly request that I turn it “off”.
I took him to the Nature Center in Burbank when we had a little break in between the downpours. It was (surprise!) not really his thing. Luckily we found some puddles. Good old fashioned puddles to the rescue! I didn’t really expect him to play in the water as well as he did. It was awesome to see him jump and splash and not put up much of a fight. He just went for it, soaked socks and pants and all!!
When we got home, we got warm by the fire and promptly went through pretty much every single toy here, trying to entertain ourselves indoors for the rest of the day. There was lots of Blue’s Clues and tickle fights and silliness. And listen. We got through it. Everyone’s alive. I got to shoot some video and we have some fond memories to look back on.
If that’s not a successful day with a toddler, I don’t know what is.
