I am definitely starting to get excited to update my summer capsule for August – October (the hottest time of year in LA). It’s funny the things you start looking forward to when your days consist of playing nothing but Hot Wheels in different rooms around the house for so many months. I decided to do a Summer Part 2, because I started this capsule in May when the weather was much more moderate. After 3 months of wearing the same things, I’m noticing what’s working best and what items can be put away as it’s only going to get hotter. I’m bringing in more natural, breathable fibers and ultimately aiming for comfort (as usual!)
outfit notes
This top is one that I love, but won’t be bringing over into Summer Part 2. Since it’s made of tencel, it’s just not as breathable as I’d like and it shows wetness pretty easily. Remember how many of my decisions are based around sweat? So I’ll put it aside and reevaluate for late Fall as the weather levels out. But I’m certainly enjoying wearing it today — it almost makes me wish I had somewhere to go.
allyship notes
I know my notes here have been mostly history related lately, and I do feel it’s important to learn facts without the white-wash lens. I like to be well-equipped with info when people question why I think a certain way, and history lessons are a great way to do that. It takes humility to un-learn, but that along with empathy can help us to see why Black citizens feel oppressed and why they need us to listen. On the other hand, no amount of history lessons in the world can replace the personal work that we do to break down our internal racism. So take this as your gentle nudge today to do or learn about something you’ve been avoiding.
My notes for today are regarding the protests in Portland. I wanted to research a bit more so I could make an informed decision on where I stand. I already felt like I didn’t agree with federal agents coming in, but I wanted to know more about why they were there. Maybe I was missing something. One news source I really appreciate in times like these is AllSides. I like that I can search news reported from the left, right, and center. Which just helps me make less biased assumptions.
Next up, I’ll be talking about another topic I’ve been avoiding: voting. Chat soon.
