It wasn’t our first trip to Underwood Family Farms, but it was my favorite.
I think the key to these things is to know going in that it’s going to be crowded, hot, and expensive. Once you accept that, it’s all fun and games. Ha! And not only was I prepared for all the nonsense, but I was also expecting Stevie to have a miserable time.
Except that he didn’t.
So it was a wonderful, welcome surprise!
He cheered enthusiastically for the little racing pigs, got a kick out of the farm animals, made it through the corn maze without losing it, loved riding these things (Paul and I both immediately got on our phones to find knock off versions for Christmas), and he even carried a couple small pumpkins all the way back to car. I’m still in awe. Who the heck was this kid? It certainly didn’t hurt that we were there with friends, but I was still so glad he was in a good mood.
So is this what it’s like to have a fun day with your family??
Sure, I’ll take more of that, please.
I’ve been disappointed so many times in the past, I’ve definitely built up a wall around the things I used to consider fun. I can hardly even take Stevie to the park these days because he burned me out so bad. But maybe it’s a good time to slowly build up the audacity to try more undertakings like this again. Maybe.
The endless lowering of expectations certainly hasn’t gotten me anywhere. Maybe I go straight back to blind optimism?
Ok. Maybe not yet. But I’ll work on it.
Yup, I was there too!

Do y’all visit your local pumpkin patch or is it too much of a spectacle?
