Today’s post is a little different! I’ve teamed up with my dear friends Paige and Andrea for a fun little styling session. It’s been a long time since we’ve done one of these, so it was fun to play dress up for a bit and we all needed a little boost after this weird summer. We were each gifted the same reversible satin midi skirt from Vetta Capsule, and I am so excited to see how we each use our different styles to make it work in our wardrobes.
The Reversible Midi Skirt
Vetta Capsule specializes in making garments that can be worn multiple ways and I love that versatility. The midi skirt is made in NYC of 100% recycled poly (the only way I’d consider adding poly to my wardrobe). The benefit of using poly for this type of garment is it looks upscale and silky, but is still machine washable. Mom-life approved! The skirt is double layered with a hidden elastic waist, so it can be worn showing a patterned side or a solid side. I highly prefer the patterned side because it feels easier to dress down, but the solid side will work really well for certain occasions.
Sizing
When considering sizing, I recommend checking your measurements here. Of course my hip and waist measurements fall EXACTLY in between the Medium and Large, so I went with the Large to be safe. I was mostly concerned about the slinky fabric pulling across my hips. While this size feels comfortable, if I try to wear it a little higher up on my true waist, it’s a bit loose and bunches around the hips. So I will eventually be trying the Medium to compare. But wanted to let you know the deets in case you like a looser fit. The midi skirt is also much longer than I expected, so if you’re on the petite side, that’s something to consider. I’m 5’6″ and it hits just a couple inches above my ankle. All that being said, if you are in between sizes, I think with the elastic waist and the stretch of the fabric, you will be safe to go with the smaller size.
outfit details
I’ve been working from my summer capsule since May and I feel like I have a really good handle on my casual basics. But admittedly there are some “fun” styles that feel lacking. This seemed like a great opportunity to add something a little more interesting and unexpected. And the skirt did not disappoint. It actually paired easily with a lot more things than I originally imagined.
Finally on to the fun part! Brainstorming the outfits. My number one goal was to “casualize” the skirt. That’s not a word, but you know what I mean! I wanted to take this seemingly fancy piece and see if I could learn how to dress it down. It needs to work for my real life vs. my fantasy life. I had a LOT of ideas how to wear it in autumn, but summer (as usual) had me stumped. Honestly, I can’t even remember the last time I owned a skirt! I have a hard time with dresses in general and they are never at the top of my shopping priority list. So this was a challenge — but like, the good kind of challenge.

LOOK ONE: Summer Chic
When I think about how I’d like to dress in summer, this is it. I felt effortless but pulled together. Perfect for a brunch date or a day of shopping (remember those days??) As I was taking these photos and filming my IGTV, it was so stinkin’ hot, a sleek ponytail seemed like the only option. Simple accessories just bring it all home.
LOOK TWO: Shorter Skirt
Another benefit to the elastic waist on a skirt is you might be able to pull it up around your bust to give the illusion of a “strapless dress” — or shorter skirt, if you’re as adverse to strapless clothes as I am! I discovered this trick last fall trying to work an old stretchy skirt and I was surprised how well it worked! You can top it with a button up, a knotted tee, a sweater or a belt and it gives off a whole different vibe.
LOOK THREE: CASUAL CUTE
It doesn’t get much more casual than sneakers and a tee! I wasn’t sure a white tee would work with a skirt in these colors. It didn’t seem right on paper. But the more I saw it on Pinterest, the more I started to like it. I guess that’s why they call the white tee a staple, it goes with pretty much anything and everything. This tee is a few years old from loungewear brand MiakodaNY and I love it. But since it’s no longer available, I linked to a similar one from a really great quality brand in case you’re looking.
LOOK FOUR: A NIGHT OUT
Now of course I had to show one outfit that was a little more dressed up. The midi skirt is from the Glam Capsule, after all. Both sides of the skirt worked really well with this soft wrap bodysuit (which is now available with short sleeves too) and gorgeous lace-up booties. I added the patterned tights from a sustainable brand for an interesting visual detail. Come to think of it this whole outfit is from responsible brands. And now I kinda want to go out on the town!
OK lovely friends! That does it for me. If you want to see how these outfits came together, I made a quick IGTV vid too. (Quick to watch, not to edit!) And please go check out Paige and Andrea’s styling ideas. I guarantee they will be good. Thank you for checking in!
